ひなあられとは？

ひなあられ（雛あられ）は、ひな祭り（3月3日）に食べられる日本の伝統的なお菓子です。小さな丸い形をしたカラフルなあられで、砂糖で甘く味付けされたものや、醤油や塩で味付けされたものがあります。地域によって違いがあり、関東では甘いひなあられが一般的ですが、関西では醤油や塩味のものも多いです。ひなあられの色には意味があり、ピンク（春）、白（冬）、緑（夏）、黄色（秋）を表し、四季の自然を表現しています。これは、子どもの健やかな成長を願う意味が込められています。

What is Hina Arare?

Hina Arare is a traditional Japanese snack eaten during Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day) on March 3rd. These are small, round, and colorful rice crackers. They can be sweet (coated with sugar) or savory (flavored with soy sauce or salt), depending on the region. In Kanto (Eastern Japan), sweet hina arare is more common, while in Kansai (Western Japan), savory versions are also popular.

The colors of hina arare (pink, white, green, and yellow) represent the four seasons:

🍂 Yellow – Autumn

This symbolizes nature’s cycle and carries a wish for children’s healthy growth and happiness.

ひなあられの由来

ひなあられの起源には諸説ありますが、「雛（ひな）御供（おそなえ）」と呼ばれる昔の風習が関係していると言われています。

平安時代の貴族の子女は、ひな人形を外に持ち出して遊ぶ「ひなの国見せ」という風習を楽しんでいました。その際に、お供えした餅を砕いて焼いたものを携帯食として持ち歩いたのが、ひなあられの始まりだとされています。

Origin of Hina Arare

There are several theories about the origin of Hina Arare, but it is believed to be related to an old custom called “Hina Osone” (雛御供), where offerings were made to Hina dolls.

During the Heian period (794–1185), noble children would take their Hina dolls outdoors for a custom called “Hina no Kunimise” (雛の国見せ), which means “showing the dolls the country.” To accompany them, they would carry portable food made by breaking and roasting rice cakes offered to the dolls. This is considered the origin of hina arare.
