おみくじとは？ / What is Omikuji?

おみくじは、日本の神社や寺院で引くことができる運勢を占う紙のくじです。大吉（とても良い運勢）から大凶（とても悪い運勢）までのさまざまな結果があり、人生の指針として親しまれています。

Omikuji is a type of fortune slip that can be drawn at Japanese shrines and temples. The results range from “Daikichi” (great fortune) to “Daikyo” (great misfortune) and are cherished as guidance for life.

歴史 / History

おみくじの歴史は平安時代（8〜12世紀）に遡ります。当時は、国の方針を決める際に神意を伺う方法として使用されていました。江戸時代（17〜19世紀）になると、一般の人々にも広まり、現在のような形で神社や寺院で引かれるようになりました。

The history of Omikuji dates back to the Heian period (8th–12th century), when it was used to seek divine guidance for national policies. During the Edo period (17th–19th century), it became popular among the general public and evolved into its present form at shrines and temples.
