中身も、小倉あんはもちろん、栗あん、クリーム、チョコ、など、訪れるたびに新しい味に出会うことも少なくありません。私のお気に入りは、紫いもあんです！
外国人観光客の方にも気軽に楽しんでもらえる街角スイーツ、たい焼きを、英語で紹介してみましょう。

たい焼き（Taiyaki）とは？

たい焼きは、日本の伝統的なスイーツで、魚の形をした焼き菓子です。小麦粉の生地を型に流し込み、あんこ（甘い小豆ペースト）を詰めて焼き上げます。外はカリッとしていて、中はふんわりとした食感が特徴です。

最近では、カスタードクリーム、チョコレート、チーズなど、さまざまな種類のフィリング（中身）も人気です。たい焼きは屋台や和菓子店でよく売られており、手軽に楽しめる日本のストリートフードのひとつです。

What is Taiyaki?

Taiyaki is a traditional Japanese sweet shaped like a fish. It is made by pouring a batter (similar to pancake or waffle batter) into a fish-shaped mold, filling it with sweet red bean paste (anko), and then baking it until golden brown. The outside is crispy, while the inside remains soft and fluffy.

Nowadays, there are many variations with different fillings such as custard cream, chocolate, and cheese. Taiyaki is commonly sold at street stalls and Japanese confectionery shops, making it a popular and easily accessible street food in Japan.

たい焼きの由来（Origin of Taiyaki）

たい焼きは、明治時代（1868年～1912年）に東京で誕生したといわれています。そのルーツは「今川焼（いまがわやき）」という円形の焼き菓子です。今川焼の人気が高まる中、より特徴的な形にしようと考えたのが、東京の和菓子店「浪花家総本店（なにわやそうほんてん）」の創業者・**神戸清次郎（かんべせいじろう）**でした。

なぜ「魚の形」なのかというと、鯛（たい）は日本で縁起の良い魚とされているからです。鯛は「めでたい（おめでたい）」という言葉にもかかっており、祝い事などでよく食べられる高級魚でした。しかし、庶民には手が届きにくかったため、誰でも気軽に楽しめるお菓子として「鯛の形の今川焼」、つまり「たい焼き」が生まれたのです。

たい焼きはすぐに人気となり、全国に広まりました。特に、昭和時代には「およげ！たいやきくん」という歌が大ヒットし、たい焼きの知名度をさらに高めました。

Origin of Taiyaki

Taiyaki originated in Tokyo during the Meiji era (from 1868 to 1912). It was inspired by Imagawayaki, a round-shaped traditional Japanese confection. As Imagawayaki gained popularity, a confectioner named Seijiro Kanbe, the founder of Naniwaya Sohonten, wanted to create a more unique shape.

The fish shape was chosen because the tai (red sea bream) is considered a symbol of good luck in Japan. The word “tai” sounds like “medetai,” which means “celebratory.” Tai was a luxury fish that common people could not easily afford, so making a fish-shaped sweet allowed everyone to enjoy the symbolism of good fortune.

Taiyaki quickly became popular across Japan. In the Showa era (20th century), the song “Oyoge! Taiyaki-kun” (Swim! Taiyaki) became a nationwide hit, further increasing the dessert’s fame.
